According to research people who live long lives need no encouragement to eat their greens. The top vegetables are broccoli, kale, and spinach they are packed with nutrients and they are known to help protect against heart disease and cancer.

Many antioxidants found in leafy greens contain, vitamin C and E, beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin help to slow down the progression of eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and degeneration according to research.

One study of adults with an average age of 81 years found that those who ate two daily servings of green leafy vegetables had the cognitive function of a person 11 years younger compared with those who avoided them, this was due to the folate, beta-carotene, and vitamin K.
